Two Types of Boxing Gloves

Serious Risks

Traumatic brain injury is higher in professional levels of boxing

  • 11% of amateur boxers still had structural anomalies in their brain.

Modified forms of boxing

  • Reduce the risk of injury for competitors.

  • Reduced risk of injuries for the whole community

The use of pneumatic or air -inflated "bladders" significantly reduces this risk of injury.

Drop Tested

10 oz glove and 16 oz glove

Over the course of 10 times from a height range of 1 – 5 metres and in increments of 0.5 metres.

SBLI

This "bladder" is called an SBLI and designed from a football bladder and is situated in the front of the glove.

  • reduce the impact of a punch at lower velocities

  • failed to weaken the impact at faster velocities

ARLI

ARLI is the second type which has an internal elastic skeleton that expels air on impact and then resets by taking in air.

  • weakened the impact of punches at all velocities.

This information showed that the use of ARLI within the context would be better than SBLI because its just better in all aspects. Although the design can definitely can be improved to feel like a traditional glove, the general safety is adequate for the task therefore shouldn't be focused on development.
